Review by Rod for Whiteheart : Millennium Archives Limited Edition 2007-02-05
"Ric Florian, their second vocalist. Their first, Gary Lunn, had some sort of legal entanglement" from Chris 2005-07-08 is wrong. Gary Lunn was never Whitehearts vocalist. He was their bass player for Whiteheart, Hotline and Vital Signs. I believe (know) Scott was referringto Scott Douglas.

So, I became a WhiteHeart fan probably in 1997 or 98, not exactly sure. I was 12 or 13 at the time. To be honest, they are still my favorite band, and paved the way for me to become a true "hair-band chic" as my Dad called me. I guess I would describe WhiteHeart as being hard rock in general, though some of their albums fit that label better than others. Their sound has a tendency to change dramatically between albums, especially in their last two CD's which were produced in the later '90's and have a definitely more alternative feel. My two favorite CD's of theirs are Freedom and Highlands. Freedom was what I really consider to be their "coming out" CD. Really thoughtful lyrics, paired with amazing music. Highlands was another landmark album in my opinion because again its lyrics are fantastic and encourage us to "change the way we feel about..." lots of things (to borrow a phrase from WhiteHeart). I have to say, above all else those two albums really define what WH is about to me. When I think WH I think "energy, passion." (Check out the video for PowerHouse and you'll feel me. Ric is a spaz and is great fun to watch!) And to me, Freedom and Highlands just epitomize those ideals. To the lyrics, on any of the CDs, they are thought-provoking, and elicit a true amazement for God in the listener without much of the cheese-factor that is really prevalent in much of Christian '80's music. Trust me, these guys will amaze you, especially if you have an affinity for '80's rock that glorifies God.

Freedom is thee best Christian album ever produced from a musical standpoint. Gordon Kennedy at his best. Anyone who listens will be impressed. Other albums by the band were good- but with Freedom everything came together for a departure from the candy apple christian recipies to real and original music that make you close your eyes and get lost.

Review by Chris for Whiteheart : Don't Wait For The Movie 2005-01-21
Whiteheart was one of the great Christian Rock bands, back in a time before anyone made money off the genre. This album was one the slickest, most well-produced of its time, although Petra and Stryper were putting out material just as good. Still, Whiteheart (whose sound about this time I would describe as hard pop-rock, akin to Night Ranger or Whitesnake) was always one of the most talented Christian groups around. This was the first album they made with Ric Florian, their second vocalist. Their first, Gary Lunn, had some sort of legal entanglement, which I can't speculate on. But both Florian and Lunn were extremely powerful vocalists. Florian had a higher range, and "Don't Wait For the Movie" showcases it well, along with the high overal level of musical talent this group displayed. My one quibble is that this album signaled a shift towards softer music that only accelerated with every albu thereafter. The recording which immediately preceded this, "Hotline," was a smokin', pre rock album. With DWFtM, the band began introducing a lot more synthesizers and fluid harmonies, and took their sound in a generally unsatisfactory direction from the standpoint of a rock purist.

Review by Craig for Whiteheart 2004-11-09
WhiteHeart was and still is one of my favorite groups to listent to. Their classic rock sound of their mid-albums, Hotline, and Don't wait for the movie will challenge melodies of any top 40 group of thier time. The lyrics of WH go unmatched. Smiley & Gershmel wrote some amazing things for the group, as well as for many other singers ie. Sandy Patty, and other CCM artists. They will be missed on the cutting edge of Christian Rock. From Gordon Kennedy, Tommy Simms, and the high's of Ric are something missing in today's Christian Rock Music. God Bless.

Review by Johnny Mac for Whiteheart : Freedom 2004-09-26
I have been a fan of Whiteheart from the beginning. Their debut album (on vinyl) was awesome, and they kept producing albums that were first-rate throughout the 80s and 90s. Freedom and the self-titled debut album were definitely their best, though, in my opinion. They even had a bit of a "U2 Joshua Tree"-era sound on a few Freedom tracks (like the tail end of "Freedom"). I got to see the band live a few times, and even meet them at an autograph session in Calgary, AB. They were excellent musicians with a sincere love for God and people. They will be missed as a band, but their legacy in music will live on for many, many years to come.

Review by Patrick for Whiteheart : Freedom 2004-01-09
WhiteHeart put out some GREAT music and their lyrical content is superior. I jumped on board in the mid 80's with Don't Wait for the Movie and stayed with them until the end. I would say that Freedom is their best project. It was one of (producer) Brown Bannister's first "rock" projects and he did a wonderful job. The rock mixed with hints of jazz made for a great sound. The band lineup was their best. All of the members could cover singing parts and were very talented on their instruments. The CD version of Freedom also had a bonus track, "Set the Bridge on Fire", that is a wonderful gem. During the "Freedom" era WhiteHeart was ahead of the rest of the industry.

I first heard WhiteHeart in 1998 on a Christmas CD (Christmas On the Rock) I was really impressed with their rendition of "Little Drummer Boy." I got their cd, "Nothing But the Best, Rock Classics" and fell in love with it on the first listen. They've been my favorite band ever since. I would describe White Heart as being a hard rock band. The thing I probably like best about them is their lyrics. Mark Gersmehl & Billy Smiley write songs that are hard hitting and beautiful @ the same time. I have 8 out of WhiteHeart's 11 studio cd's and both of their "Nothing But The Best" cd's. I love them all and would find it very difficult to say which was my favorite. Check Whiteheart out! They definately deserve a listen.
