Review by Tim Pozzi for Watashi Wa : The Love of Life 2003-10-09
This record is simplicity at its finest. Great melodies, crooning guitar work and beautiful lyrical delivery, prove that this band is nowhere near the pop sewage saturating the airwaves these days. Do yourself a favour by picking up this wonderful look at life at its best.

Watashi wa have songwriting abilities that far exceed that of any other band on the tooth & nail roster. This CD sounds poppy and simplistic at a first listen, but after a few listens you begin to hear the amazing creativity behind each note played and each word sung. This album contains surprisingly tasteful use of guitar effects and sometimes complicated combinations of sounds without sounding over-produced. My biggest fear after hearing the CD was that they would be incapable of reproducing their songs live. Their performances at cornerstone festival were enough to prove me wrong. If you are looking for a band who knows how to write melodic pop songs but you're sick of everyone sounding the same, this album is for you. Watashi wa is a fresh positive sound in a music scene that is saturated with dashboard confessional-style pessimism. Go buy the CD

WOW! What an amazing album! The group's sound has very much matured since their last album. The music is very smooth and flowing. It has been very well mixed. If you like Holland, you will LOVE this cd!

This CD is amazing, one of the best to come along in years. It is a real spirit lifter, with great melodies that stick in your head, like those early Beatles songs. This CD will grow on you, the more you hear it the more you'll love it. it is a "must have" for sure.

Very catchy, very melodic. Definitely one of the best bands on the Tooth and Nail roster. They've matured alot from their last album "What's in the Way". "Smoke Signals" is an awesome song, I must say. This is definitely worth the money for people with a soft-spot for very melodic rock and roll tunes.

The CD definitely rocks. At first listen, you may hear some happy, well-mixed jingles. However, the second time through, you realize that there is substance to the lyrics and not only are they cleverly crafted, but they have a passion and an honesty that you rarely see.
One correction; The Love of Life no longer has "The Courtyard" on it. So don't look for that on your new CD because it isn't there.
