Three Taverns unofficially began playing in January of 1994 at which time Timothy Shetter and Micah Claycamp met and began leading worship together for Campus Crusade for Christ at Northern Arizona University. Soon after Tim and Micah were influential in the development of "The College Group" at Flagstaff Christian Fellowship. The small group of college students exploded to over 300 students in a matter of months. During this time Tim and Micah grew as worship leaders and songwriters and the foundation was laid for the music of Three Taverns as exists today.

After graduating in 1996 Tim (geology) and Micah (fine arts) said their goodbyes to their friends in Flagstaff, as well as to each other. Tim headed for the East Coast and Micah headed for Colorado each to pursue their chosen careers. By the amazing hand of God, 9 months later they found themselves back together as roommates in Denver, Colorado.

Within their first week re-united, at least one of their current songs was written. They realized at that point that God had placed His blessing on their music. One clear night about a month later the name "Three Taverns" became official as the guys "hung out" on a mountain face overlooking the Denver city lights. As spoken of in Acts 28:15, a quest to meet Paul took a few brothers on a journey. It was a journey that took the brothers by foot over 30 miles to the ancient gates of Rome. Those brothers were from the town of Three Taverns. Paul, who was in the midst of his third missionary journey, was encouraged by the efforts of these brothers. The name was perfect! Three Taverns was born as Tim and Micah set out to meet their brothers with the "sound of encouragement."

Within a matter of months Three Taverns scraped together enough funds to spend a half day in studio recording a cassette! Armed with some product Three Taverns began playing at coffeehouses, churches, weddings, camps, and college events around Colorado. Not long after they were opening for artists such as Five Iron Frenzy, Sherri Youngward, Ridgely (and later Eric Peters), Matt Jones, Mark Williams, 5’Oclock People, and Jason Ingram.

Over the years they have been compared to bands such as Jars of Clay, Ridgely, or early Caedmon’s Call. Three Taverns began as the duo of Tim and Micah. The strength that caught peoples’ attention was these guys’ tightly crafted harmonies and catchy tunes. Today, however, Tim and Micah’s harmonies are backed by Three Taverns’ magical acoustic instrumentation. The cello, violin, and upright bass have been an amazing addition to the guitar work of the original members of the band; and the percussive work of Alfredo Pinto has added the backing groove. Jennifer Darr has also been recently added to the line-up, bringing not only her own creative writing abilities, but the vocal sounds of heaven.

Most recently, in addition to Three Taverns recording their own sounds (still in progress), Tim and Micah have embarked on another adventure, founding an organization with the purpose of encouraging missionaries through advertising and music. The Three Taverns Project recently released its first album: A Colorado Compilation featuring 9 artists spread mostly across Colorado. The project has made quite a stir throughout Colorado. One gentleman gave his creative slant on the CD: "..this is one CD I can’t stop listening to." It’s a soothing blend of melodic vocals mixed with a hint of espresso; very addictive. We hope you will find the music of Three Taverns soothing, and addictive as well! You can find out more about Three Taverns the Band and the Three Taverns Project at www.threetaverns.com.

The songs on the Three Taverns Project: A Colorado Compilation CD truly express that the Lord is at work through these artists. The music allows the listener to feel as if they are a part in the work that God is doing. It is a piece all on its own. Each artist has their own gifts and they shine in the music that the Lord has brought together.

Review by Paul Shetter for The Three Taverns Project 2001-07-18
I am Tim Shetter's dad! And as a proud father my review is surely biased......but what's a proud dad to do when his son in obedience to Christ has helped to create and compile such a fine collection of music. Until I heard the finished "Colorado Compilation" I hadn't heard of several of the featured artists, but guickly fell in love with the "hearts" of each. I'm a little older and like to understand the lyrics of the music......and I can do that with this album. I want to know the words, and know that through them the artist is truly "Praising and thanking the Lord". I have found myself listening to this album continually. It is great for my exercising walks.....great pace music! It is melodic and just right for "quiet times", and soothing for the stressful hours at work. Even though I am a biased dad......I can recommend it highly to everyone. God Bless ThreeTaverns, and may you enjoy the work of "His Hands" in their music.

It's terrific! Every song on there is rich musically and I appreciated the depth in the lyrics. It is fresh enough to listen to over and over and not get worn by it. Excellent compilation!!! I have to order another one because I sent mine to a friend who I knew would love it.

Last night I picked up the Three Taverns compilation CD at Johnstown Java and Jams after a phenomenal night of acoustic music. If you've never been up there you really should check it out sometime - what an awesome ministry! Well, moving onto my review of the CD...some friends' band has 2 songs on it, so I thought I'd check it out. I was thoroughly impressed with the entire album. The passion of each of the artists on the project is hugely evident in their music. The lyrics are all totally refreshing and the quality of music is just amazing. There is some huge talent compiled on that disc! I'd highly recommend this album to anyone who appreciates music and is looking for a passionate, refreshing set of songs. I was blessed by the music on this album and I have no doubt that God is going to use it to bless many others. May He bless you too!!!

"As far as compilations go - the Three Taverns Colorado Compilation is the finest example of local homegrown/independent music I have ever heard. There are many challenges musicians face these days - ranging from finding competent players to join in the madness to getting people to hear the muses that finally make it to vinyl. The Colorado Compilation is to me a very steady and consistent array of well-crafted songs by bands that have worked very hard to hone their craft - and hopefully they all finally have found an avenue to get their music heard by the masses." If you want to get blessed, get your hands on this compilation! Not one but many anointed musicians have come together to create an incredible album. To boot, funds assist several terrific causes - sponsoring church builds with The Village Church Project, engineering more sophisticated systems in third world counries with EMI, and nourishing (physically and academically) orphans and street children in Africa and Vietnam. What an awesome vision God has planted in this project - definitely support the cause and become familiar with these talented artists!

Review by Nathan Shetter for The Three Taverns Project 2001-06-18
I have listened to Three Taverns since before they were Three Taverns. They have come a long way and the Lord has given them a real gift. I have heard many compilation albums including "The Awakenings" albums and I really feel that "The Colorado Compilation" is even better than those were. Remember some bands like Caedmon's Call came from those. This would be a great buy for anyone. Take a chance!!!

Review by Matthew Wanasek for The Three Taverns Project 2001-06-18
The Colorado Compilation is a mixture of some hot new bands with pure undefiled talent. Trust in You--by Three Taverns, is a song full of heart and substance. To me, this song not only raps around your mind (as so many songs do) but also raps itself around your heart, showing us the void in our lives and our need as human beings for a Savior, which is the underlying message of the album. Sort of a 70's feel with a 21st century sound, this goes great with a good cup of coffee on a rainy day. (Or any day of the week for that matter.) This album is a must hear. I highly recommend it! Also check out John David Websters-Riverside. Matthew Wanasek --recording artist
