Released November 4, 2005. Armed with a fan base from having played for five and a half years previously as The Tremolo Cowboys, the new band The Blackstones has begun to create a stir in the Christian Music Scene of the Pacific Northwest. The Blackstones' members include former Tremolo Cowboys members Aaron LaMere as the lead vocalist and guitar player, Bobby Love on lead guitar and backing vocals, and Michael Salinas on the drums. With their arsenal of bluesy guitar riffs and their trademark garage rock drums, this new band is certainly doing something different in Christian Music and in worship. "I think we're something different, yeah," says Aaron LaMere the group's singer and frontman. "We're kind of just trying to do the thing that we feel we've been called to do, which is to stretch the boundaries of worship. We're not trying to glorify ourselves with our music; in fact, we're trying to push the attention towards the one guy who really deserves all of our attention and affection." The Blackstones released their debut cd in October of 2005 and it has already earned some high critical praises. The new cd is a twelve song effort titled The Legend of Simon Peter. "The new record is something a bit different than anything we've done in the past," states LaMere. "It's a true full-length record at twelve songs long and really has a certain amount of rise and fall, mountain and valley, climax and struggle to it rarely seen in Christian indie projects. The subject matter is something different as well," continues LaMere. "Nearly the entire record is written around this 'Simon Peter' type story line that includes Peter's denial of Christ, some amount of questioning and some amount of answering even...The whole record is written around my idea of what conversation between God and Peter might sound like... As a kid and now as an adult, I was always impressed by the story of Peter in the Bible, by how great his fall was, and also by how amazing his comeback really was. I see a lot of myself in that story. My ability to lead at times in my life has been threatened by a kind of magnificent ability I seemed to have for falling down. Devotion, humility, discipline... those kind of words take on a different meaning after you have been tested and found lacking... and I think there was a time in my life when I'd felt that way. I guess part of me figures Peter must have felt that way after his great denial of Christ. Peter must have felt as if he'd failed a great test. And yet... only a month or so later, we find the same Peter preaching and saving hundreds of souls, adding more fuel to the fire than ever before and really, enflaming the entire early Christian movement. To me, Peter is kind of 'the comeback kid of the Bible.' I guess if you consider that viewpoint, it's easy to see how this new cd is kind of my version of rooting for the underdog in the fight."
