Brother and sister Todd and Nicol grew up in a musical family that lived together, sang together and traveled together through most of their childhood. Extending the musical heritage, they joined close friend and phenomenal pianist Allan Hall to record their first album together as "Selah", which means "to lift up the voice in praise."

Selah received a total of three Gospel Music Association Dove Awards for this CD. The group's 2001 sophomore release, Press On, was named Inspirational Album of the Year, with Selah's Todd Smith, Allan Hall and Nicol Smith, along with Jason Kyle, also receiving awards as producers of the project. In addition, Selah received a Dove Award for Traditional Gospel Recorded Song for Hold On, written by Jesse Dixon.

Marking Selah's second career Dove Award win for Inspirational Album of the year, the group also received the Award in 2000 for Selah's Curb debut, Be Still My Soul. To date, Selah has received a total of five Dove Awards.

"It is a thrill to be acknowledged by our peers, and we are so pleased that our music has received this recognition for the second time," said Selah's Allan Hall. "We are deeply grateful to Curb Records for giving us the freedom to make the kind of projects we want to make."

"'Hold On is a song that is very close to my heart, so the Traditional Gospel Song honor is especially meaningful for me," said Selah's Nicol Smith. "'Hold On' was a frequent consolation during a very dark, depressing year in Africa when I was fighting repeated bouts of malaria and deeply missing my sister who was away at boarding school. In the midst of trials, it can be hard to see how God can bring good out of difficult situations in life, and I never would have predicted that 'Hold On' would bring about such a joyful moment for me tonight."
