Nowhere Else But Here is a collection of songs that has been born out of struggle. These songs are the expression and articulation of my own wrestling matches with God, myself, and life. I am convinced that it does more good to write songs that deal honestly with the raw questions of life than to theorize about the answers. In the struggle we confront ourselves and the real questions. We are not satisfied with easy answers but in finding life and hope. One of my favorite spiritual writers, Henri Nouwen, said it well when he said, "rarely do happy endings truly make us happy, but often one’s careful and honest articulation of the pains, ambiguities and uncertainties in life brings us new hope." We live in a broken world and we are broken people. We long to hear the voice of honesty, passion, hope and love; to hear that someone else lives in the same world we do and faces the same mess. We long to be liberated to face life and all its questions with hope and courage; to hear that our dark secrets of fear and shame don’t have to stay hidden under the mask of constructed confidence. How does this happen? How do we get honest with ourselves and with others? If we just look at ourselves for who we truly are-broken, confused, cynical, empty- we most likely will fall into incurable despair. Is there God? Is there redemption? Is there hope? These are the questions that matter. If there is no God, no redemption and no hope, it would only make sense to construct an imaginary world in which we all live on the surface ignoring and avoiding at all costs the reality deep within us and all around us. If there is God and there is redemption and hope, then perhaps we can truly look at life as it is and find meaning there. Perhaps we can find the boldness to confront things honestly and without fear. I am persuaded that it is only in light of redemption that we can go headlong into human struggle and be liberated from lying to ourselves and to others about the condition of things. In redemption God is able to meet us in the middle of the mess and bring life to us. We don’t have to fix things, we just need to peel our arms from across our chest and open ourselves to the possiblity of a love that’s eternal, a hope that’s secure and a God who has tasted the mess firsthand. This CD is for anyone who is tired inside, who longs to dream again; anyone on the journey in search of redemption in the midst of human struggle. -- Matthew Perryman Jones Other customers who purchased Nowhere Else But Here by Matthew Perryman Jones were also interested in: CD Rocks Won't Cry by Shane Barnard CD My Time Alive by The Pool Boys CD Welcome To Love by Justin Barnard CD She Must and Shall Go Free by Derek Webb | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
