"I'm a husband, a father of two, and one of the pastors at a great church called Highrock (Boston, MA). I'm not that cool, I drink way too much Diet Coke and my kids are pretty dang cute." - Eugene Kim

As you can clearly tell from his short description of himself, there are a few things of great importance in Eugene Kim's life: his family, his church, and a bit of caffeine to get him through some long days of work. "Songs at 3" is a collection of worship songs written mostly at 3 am, long after he's tucked his kids into bed. Songs written while preparing for service for his extended family, the church. And it is with the church's support (as well as friends who have been requesting for Eugene to record his songs) that he traveled back and forth between New York and Boston to work on this album with singer-songwriter/producer Koo Chung.

In a day and age where many worship songs tend to revolve around one's sentiments, Eugene puts his seminary degree to use and writes songs that range from focusing on God's characteristics to ones that teach the value of living in community where there is true acceptance for all people. Since artists such as Michael Card there haven't been too many artists that are able to deliver the balance of truth based lyrics and great melody. "Songs at 3" is perfect for worship leaders who are looking to teach new songs that are designed for the body of Christ to sing in a corporate setting.

Featured musicians include many old and new friends such as Mark Stanley on drums, Koo Chung on guitars, Jinny Kim (Broken For Good Records) on vocals, Dan Cho on cello, and even his big sis, Susan Kim on the violin! Grab a copy for yourself today for some of the best worship songs coming out of beantown!

I'm always looking for new praise and worship songs here in Hong Kong, especially ones that aren't just fluff. Looking forward to introducing some of these songs to our congregation here.

Review by Josh for Eugene Kim : Songs At 3 2005-11-02
In an age when sentiment and emotion rule so many praise songs, Eugene's songs fight the trend and focus less on how we feel about God, and remind ourselves of how God feels about us. Of all the songs on this album, the short intro from Psalms 19 "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart" is my favorite. It not only introduces the album, it dedicates it. The first words of the CD are a reminder that everything that follows is meant to glorify God. I love it! Best of all, this is not just an album that people can enjoy on their own but one that whole congregations can use for worship. In a culture where we pay so much attention to the individual and so little to the community, this CD is a movement toward corporate worship and community praise.

I can't stop listening to this album. Maybe it's because Eugene and I have similar vocal ranges, making it very easy for me to sing along during my 2 hours of driving every day. Or it could be the fact that the music is really catchy and well produced. But, most likely, it's because every song urges me to take my eyes off of myself and lift up them up to the heavens and to remain in constant fellowship with the body of Christ. It's been a long time since an album has been able to nurture my walk with God this much.

A friend sent this album to me by mail. Since then for the past three weeks I've been listening to Eugene Kim's album nonstop, usually on repeat all. His voice is simple as his music is--I don't mean that in a bad way, I guess what I mean is, that it's simple in the way that the songs have no frills nor pretense. They're solid like great redwood trees, beautiful in its natural sense. Humbly asking for God's grace and provision, majestic in their childlike dependence. My favorite songs are "We Need You Lord" and "Sanctuary" and of course, the Prelude (May the Words of my Heart).

Review by Derek for Eugene Kim : Songs At 3 2005-10-08
The best worship songs are those thoroughly saturated with Biblical truth. Eugene's songs are refreshing, catchy AND full of truth. The very first song speaks of Eugene's heart and the purpose of this CD - may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You. Basically, a must buy.

Really has to be hands down the most refreshing and encouraging music I have heard, ever. I'm a hard person to please.

It's a great album. The music and lyrics are very catchy. I find myself singing these songs all day long. Everyone should have this album playing in their car while driving and there will be fewer incidents of road rage.

I've had the songs stuck in my head ever since I listened to the album and I can't wait to use them for our congregation.

Review by Amy for Eugene Kim : Songs At 3 2005-10-06
Having heard the songs live, I had to buy the CD so I could listen to them all the time. I love the lyrics in Eugene's songs--they are meaningful and not just repetitive, like so many praise songs today. The music is clean and not overwhelming, so that nothing is taken away from the beauty of what is being sung. I listen to this CD in the morning to help to set the tone for my day!

My favorite track is #4. I LOVE the lyrics and when I reflect on the words, I am always brought to tears. "Lord, we gather in your house, desperate for your presence now...we need you more than we could ever know, for you are our only hope, we need you Lord...."
