Review by Mark for Brooke Campbell : Brooke Campbell 2003-09-17
This CD is a must for any supporter of the local Charleston music scene. A very ecclectic blend of styles from acapella (Waterline) to jazz groove (Set You Free). She is in the vein of another Brooke (Jonatha) or Brooke offers thoughtful reflections through steel and wood. Her lyrics are akin to roses wrought by in the fire of relationships (What Do I Mean) and the exorcism of personal demons (Under My Skin). She is a talented female singer/songerwriter who music stands on its own just fine. Brooke does a great job musically of talking about faith but not pressing a religious agenda in song. A friend of mine was commenting on the fluidity of energy in this project. The benefits of the beautifully created song "Children" for the soul of a Spiritualist were profound.
A wonderful project!
Review by Peter Gross for Brooke Campbell 2001-04-12
Brooke is an awesome woman of God - I saw her recently at a conference where she led worship, and she just blew everyone away: her music and voice are amazing (Rushing Wind, off the album, is a personal fave!), but her presence in the midst of God's people worshipping was unbelievable. It was so evident that the Lord is at work in her...check her out at a show in the Southeast, and listen to the album - I really enjoy her and her music. She's so huge here at Davidson!!
